Cubic Points on Cubic Curves and the Brauer-manin Obstruction on K3 Surfaces

چکیده
We show that if over some number field there exists a certain diagonal plane cubic curve that is locally solvable everywhere, but that does not have points over any cubic galois extension of the number field, then the algebraic part of the Brauer-Manin obstruction is not the only obstruction to the Hasse principle for K3 surfaces.

Transcendental Obstructions to Weak Approximation on General K3 Surfaces
We construct an explicit K3 surface over the field of rational numbers that has geometric Picard rank one, and for which there is a transcendental Brauer-Manin obstruction to weak approximation. To do so, we exploit the relationship between polarized K3 surfaces endowed with particular kinds of Brauer classes and cubic fourfolds.
متن کاملTamagawa Numbers of Diagonal Cubic Surfaces of Higher Rank
We consider diagonal cubic surfaces defined by an equation of the form ax + by + cz + dt = 0. Numerically, one can find all rational points of height 6 B for B in the range of up to 10 , thanks to a program due to D. J. Bernstein. On the other hand, there are precise conjectures concerning the constants in the asymptotics of rational points of bounded height due to Manin, Batyrev and the author...
متن کاملOn the Brauer–Manin obstruction for cubic surfaces
We describe a method to compute the Brauer-Manin obstruction for smooth cubic surfaces over Q such that Br(S)/Br(Q) is of order two or four. This covers the vast majority of the cases when this group is non-zero. Our approach is to associate a Brauer class with every Galois invariant double-six. We show that all order two Brauer classes may be obtained in this way. We also recover Sir P. Swinne...
متن کاملThe arithmetic of certain del Pezzo surfaces and K3 surfaces
We construct del Pezzo surfaces of degree 4 violating the Hasse principle explained by the Brauer-Manin obstruction. Using these del Pezzo surfaces, we show that there are algebraic families of K3 surfaces violating the Hasse principle explained by the Brauer-Manin obstruction. Various examples are given.
متن کاملFailure of the Hasse Principle for Enriques Surfaces
We construct an Enriques surface over Q with empty étale-Brauer set (and hence no rational points) for which there is no algebraic Brauer-Manin obstruction to the Hasse principle. In addition, if there is a transcendental obstruction on our Enriques surface, then we obtain a K3 surface that has a transcendental obstruction to the Hasse principle.
